A restaurant called "The Breezy Tent" stood on the present site of the Fence in the 1930's. The restaurant consisted of a wooden base with a canvas tent top. One known owner was Bill Emick. Several different proprietors had a restaurant on the site until 1951 when Bob and Elva Reitz purchased the farm.

Bob decided to build a permanent building on the site of the present restaurant. He had intended to lease the business to someone, but that person backed out because of second thoughts on the location and the amount of road traffic. The Reitz's ran the business themselves seasonally, from the Wednesday before Mother's Day until the end of September.
It was called "The Fence", because of the white board fence that surrounded their large farm above the restaurant. They also served an "Angus Hamburger" named after the angus cattle they raised. They ran the restaurant until the 1972 flood almost destroyed the building. Bob rebuilt the restaurant starting in the spring of 1973, and completed in the fall of 1975; at which time second flood occurred in September, coming to four feet above floor level. Having enough of high water, they decided to sell the restaurant.

The present day owners, Robert and Debra Rabb, purchased the business in October 1975. In 1980, the screened in porch was converted into a dining room, and expanded the outdoor seating with additional picnic tables.

We have strived to keep up the same freshness and quality that the Reitz's used since the 1950's. We use fresh cut french fries, and hand bread our haddock, scallop, shrimp, and chicken daily.
